Approach

I see therapy as a process of continuously understanding oneself. My approach is eclectic, meaning that I utilize many different theories and methods in my work, however I’ve found myself leaning on psychodynamic and narrative techniques most often. The psychodynamic approach to therapy essentially means that the things in our past matter, and that they played a role in shaping who we are. Narrative therapy is a theory that works to help you understand the story you tell about your life, and to see your concerns outside of yourself, and that you are not your problems.

Sometimes these approaches don’t work for everyone - and that’s ok! It’s my job to see what does work for you, and it’s important that I remain adaptable in how I work with my clients. My techniques may change and evolve, but these things will remain true: my therapy practice is one that will validate you, see you authentically, and challenge you.

Education & Values

I earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Portland State University in 2024. I have my professional disclosure statement linked here, and I am supervised by April Ferris, LPC & Emily Berry, LPC. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington State University. Prior to becoming a therapist I worked in education, working at several schools across Washington and Oregon primarily in grades 6-8. Teaching is ultimately what brought me to the counseling field; my students inspired me to pursue my master’s degree

Beyond my traditional education, I also engage in political activism & organizing. During my time at Portland State University I was an active member of S.U.P.E.R (Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights). As a Palestinian American Muslim, who is also a therapist, it is imperative that my therapy practice is socially conscious. Mental health concerns stem from larger systemic issues including (but not limited to) capitalism and colonialism. My practice will always be a safe place for muslims, indigenous people, and all oppressed peoples.
